UIL Delays 5A & 6A Football and other Fall Sports

BREAKING: The UIL announced today that they are delaying fall sports, including football, team tennis, cross country and volleyball for 5A and 6A only by five weeks. Sports in classes below 5A will remain on the normal fall schedule.

For 5A and 6A this only affects San Angelo Central in the Concho Valley. San Angelo Central and other 5A and 6A football practices will start September 7 instead of August 3. The first games will be on the weekend of September 24-26 instead of August 27-29.

The playoffs for 5A and 6A will now start December 3 instead of November 12. The state championships will be pushed from December 16-19 to an undetermined date in January.

This move is likely the only scenario that allows for 5A and 6A to fit in an entire football season. If any other delays are made, it would almost assuredly mean a shortened season.
